Time for a cold one.
It’s been a long time, but I actually drank a fair amount of Olympia back in grad school. It was cheap and plentiful.
Any big plans for the weekend? I’m having an outpatient procedure on Tuesday morning, and since my Covid test came back negative I have to basically quarantine until it’s over. So we’ll be hanging at home, hopefully watching the rain that’s forecast for Memorial Day weekend. It always rains Memorial Day weekend in Austin.

Oly used to be my go-to cheap beer ($7.99/30 pack, once upon a long-ago time!), but after a long period of beer snobbery, I find Rainier much more appealing.
Gotta love the Olympia label, though - how can anyone dislike a beer that wishes them good luck right on the can?
Approximately 1 million years ago (early ‘90s) , I toured the Olympia brewery. Turned out there was a draft-only Olympia Dark. The tour guide warned us that this was not a beer for swilling after mowing the lawn, but a hearty, full-bodied beer that was more suited for pairing with lasagna (wtf?, but OK).
It resembled Coca Cola, but was otherwise indistinguishable from regular Olympia. Cool old brewery, though.

Got off training this week, so I might actually need to catch up a bit with my day job. I did get an update via Steam for Mafia II and III to the Definitive Edition, which includes all the DLCs, so maybe I’ll play a bit of that. But today I found out my UPS is dead so waiting on a new battery before I do anything straneous with my PC.

It’s kinda of funny that many of our local craft breweries have been doing their own take on American Pilsners recently . Several tried the dryer, Czech style and they didn’t do as well. I’ve got one right now that I swear tastes nearly exactly like Oly and there is another i’ve had that tastes exactly like Rainier, (slightly swee ter, just a smidge maltier.) Love that pic - wonder where it was taken at.

Tease!
I would kill for a cold one right about now.
No major plans for the weekend, just recuperating.

My first brush with Oly came in the mid-80s when my family took a trip to western Canada. All the Canadian breweries were on strike, and the only thing we could get was Olympi a and Rainier. I don’t think I’ve had a Rainier since then.
Oly I drank in the early 90s as a poor grad student, when I could get a 12 for about $5. I drank a lot of it. Beggars can’t be choosers.

The Grognard was the first post I ever made about weird aircraft. In fact, I made it five years ago to this day . Speaking of obscure early French jet aircraft, here’s a picture I posted some years ago. I don’t remember what the car was.
I’ll keep my eyes peeled for the trivia. Have a great weekend.

I’ve always wondered why so many small crafters do IPAs. Are they easier to make? Are they taking advantage of the craze? Because I’ve never been a fan. I’ve always been a pilsner/lager kind of guy. I did buy a seasonal pils from a local brewer, Spot On Pils by Thirsty Planet. I really like. Unfortunately, my hiatal hernia is no fan of alcohol.

Delivering. Just finished a terrible order that took too long and they took off the tip after I had accepted. For the most part I've had positive experiences.

I’d never seen Rainier before my first cross-country drive (westward from Vermont to Oakland, CA), in 1992 . We took a couple weeks & made a point of buying unfamiliar cheap beers along the way; I think we picked up the Rainier in Colorado.
Olympia was available in New England by the late ‘80s, marginally pricier than Natty Light, but so much more palatable.

Probably at least another week. Im going really easy/careful until I can go get my staples out. Then I can consult with the doc and get some better guidance.

If you are smart, yes. It’s only my second day but my first I made $46 in 2.5 hours including accepting a terrible low pay order. It’s pretty simple and you can start and stop any time.
Just finished 2 hours and $44
